I HATE AND WILL FOREVER DESPISE THE MUSTANG ECOBUST!! (-_-)

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

I have no hope for it and I honestly don’t want it to succeed. If it does, then whatever, but know this Ford; you’re trying to kill off one of the only V6s I’ve ever experienced and loved, and you will not be forgiven for this. Nothing anyone says or does can persuade me to give that little POS motor a chance in a Mustang, I don’t care, no one will get me to drive one or do anything with one; and even if I’m forced to drive one, it won’t change a damn thing.

Call me crazy, but I’ll take a regular V6 over any Ecobust Stang every time.

Okay, on with your day now.

I love this engine. It's a modern SVO, which I also love. But I also hate it because it makes 5 more HP then my Mach. In an engine half the size.

Still, I'm keeping my V8! Nothing beats that sound!

I'd give a left nut for ford to produce a DOHC twin turbo 4.0l I6 mustang.

If the Ecoboost mustang weighed considerably less, I would like it a lot more, but for the price I'd probably stick with the V6 too. They're easier to get more power out of anyway.

I'm disapointed too that people love so much the idea of the 4 Turbo, and hate the V6, without having driven any of them. I drive the 3.7 everyday and I love it. Although I'm open-minded to new options, I'm sad everyone hate the V6 by default. It weights the same, and has about the same fuel economy as the 4.

BUT, the V6 is still available with the manual and 3.55 gear ratios. WHY do people call it the rental special?

First off, SVO stands for Special Vehicle Operations; there is no more Special Vehicle Operations team, there is only ST. Mustang ST or something similar would be more acceptable. Second, I hate it.

Frankly I still don't give a damn. Nothing will convince me; I don't care how much torque it has. I would much rather have your car over it every damn day.

At the end of the day, I would not be satisfied with a Mustang that sounds like my ST, weighs almost as much, if not more, and isn't any better.

09/24/2014 at 14:52

Kinja'd!!!0

The 4 cylinder has a turbo = easier to get more power, the V6 has higher power potential, but also at a higher cost. The 4 cylinder can get significantly more power from nothing but a tune, which I'd estimate at no more than $600. Bigger downpipe will net another nice increase, I estimate this at $400. At this point we've probably added 70 horsepower, maybe more.

Try and do that for $1000 on a V6.

What I'm saying is the statement "they're easier to get more power out of anyway" is a very misleading statement. Yes, if you are going for the most power possible, it'll be easier to get that V6 to 450 than it would the I4, if we are simply talking about adding power, it's FAR FAR easier with the I4... and cheaper.

Being around large displacement motors all my life (there's never been anything smaller than a 3.6L V6 in the garage) and frankly, I'm sick of them. Give me a small turbo 4 Mustang over a V6 one any day of the week. Especially because it does have a performance advantage over the V6.

Yes, and in 20 years, all cars will be powered by your choice of a three cylinder, a V-twin or a damn lawn mower motor. I'll fight this to the end if I have to. I hope that the Mustang GT does great, I hope that the V6 does the best it can with what time it has left. I hope nothing for the Ecoboost.

Kinja'd!!! GhostZ > Yowen - not necessarily not spaghetti and meatballs
09/24/2014 at 15:24

Correction, the V6 is easier to get significantly more power, as in, 30% or more than stock. $5000 into an Ecoboost mustang goes a much shorter distance than $5000 into a V6, but below that amount the Ecoboost might get higher gains.

But you're right about the rest.

Most road cars are just fine with a turbo as no one actually drives them like a mad man on the street. As for a race car it depends on the rules and application, although I think it leans towards the NA side.

09/24/2014 at 15:29

Kinja'd!!!1

Hehehe, it is a 4G63, or the engine out of a Evo. Trololololol.

I mean it all matters on what the engine is going to be used for. For drag racing, nearly everyone uses some form of FI to get massive power. For circut racing it all depends, if you can meet the hp demands and durability without going to FI then they usually stay that way. Like this Trans Am Mustang :) 750hp of NA power!

I drive mine pretty much like a Grandma on the street, even on "back roads" around me. . . it is in quotes because we don't have any good roads. I get most of my need for speed out during autocrossing! Although a turbo doesn't prevent you from going fast, if anything it makes you faster!

09/24/2014 at 15:43

Kinja'd!!!0

There's only one perk to a bigger motor over a turbo one, and that's the sound.

I can't think of one other advantage except it's more tuneable? Which for a lot of people, they'll never reach the limits of a smaller motor.

Kinja'd!!! thejustache > K-Roll-PorscheTamer
09/24/2014 at 16:03

Kinja'd!!!0

Look, my first two cars were old BMWs with NA inline 6s. Later on I had an mk4 gti with the 1.8t, my only turbo car to date. My only experience with a ford V6 was the 3.8 essex in the Windstar my parents unfortunately owned when I first started driving, and let me tell you it was certainly nothing exciting. Never owned anything with more than 6 cylinders, but I've driven a fair share of V8s and a couple of V10s.

Do you know which were the most enjoyable to drive? Any of the engines meant to be more performance oriented, no mater the number of cylinders or if they had forced induction or not. I don't like that the V6 is being phased out, but I'm not about to start running around yelling "THE SKY IS FALLING!!! ITS A CONSPIRACY AGAINST EXCESS CYLINDERS!!" either. Personally I like any engine that is designed and tuned to produce big power, or at least deliver power in a fun and enjoyable manner. For the Mustang, that means the NA V8. The EcoBoost opens up a new niche for the car. The V6, it had no real purpose except to be cheap. Sorry....

The Accord looks good in British Racing Green ;)

Plus, it would kill the V6 Mustang price measurement meme. Nevertheless, the V6 isn’t going anywhere, given that most Mustangs sold are V6 convertibles.

Also, two things worth noting:

First, the V6 isn’t available in Europe, in this first Stang designed with export in mind.

Second, Ford places the V6 at the bottom, and the turbo-4 in the middle, while GM does the opposite with the Camaro, where the turbo-4 is the base engine and the V6 is in the middle.
